About the Nevada Combination Vehicles Test

You’ve got to handle big rigs on Nevada’s tough roads. I-80 near Elko climbs steep grades where brakes can overheat. You don’t want to ride your brakes—use engine braking instead. Our practice test covers exactly what the Nevada DMJ asks for.

Nevada’s high desert brings extreme weather. Sudden winds near Washoe Valley can push a trailer sideways. Blowing dust south of Tonopah cuts visibility to zero. You must know how coupling and air brakes work in these conditions.

Mining and freight keep Nevada’s economy moving. You might haul ore from Battle Mountain or goods from the Las Vegas distribution hubs. Each load changes your trailer’s center of gravity. Our test helps you master weight distribution and brake balance.

We wrote this test from the Nevada CDL handbook. You’ll see 20 realistic questions. They match the style and content of the real DMV exam. Score 80% or better and you’ll feel ready for the endorsement test.

What This Test Covers

  • Air brakes – Nevada’s desert heat can cause brake fade, so you must know proper adjustment.
  • Coupling and uncoupling – Essential for Nevada’s varied terrain, from mountain passes to valley flats.
  • Pre-trip inspection – High winds in Washoe Valley demand secure coupling and tire checks.
  • Weight distribution – Nevada’s mountain passes (like I-80 over the Sierras) require proper balance to avoid jackknife.
  • Towing emergencies – I-15 near Mesquite sees sudden flash floods; you need to handle trailer sway.
  • Speed control – Nevada’s long straight roads tempt speeding but you must adjust for grades and curves.

Study Tips

Study the Nevada CDL handbook section on combination vehicles. Focus on air brake components, coupling steps, and weight distribution. Our practice test shows you the exact question formats. Take it multiple times until you score 90% or higher.

Schedule your DMV skills test early. Nevada DMV offices in Reno and Las Vegas fill up fast. Arrive with a properly inspected combination vehicle. Bring your CDL permit, medical certificate, and vehicle registration. Don’t forget the cost – it’s $30 for the endorsement test.

Nevada DMV Information

Nevada DMV offers combination vehicles tests at major offices: Las Vegas (Decatur), Reno (Wells Ave), Carson City, Elko, and Henderson. You’ll need an appointment – walk-ins only work if time allows. The written test costs $25, and the skills test is $90. You must pass the general knowledge test first.

Bring your own truck and trailer for the skills test. It must pass a pre-inspection – no leaks, no broken lights. The DMV examiner checks coupling, air brakes, and a short road test. You can’t use a rental from U-Haul unless it meets weight requirements.
