Florida DMV Information
You can take the General Knowledge test at any Florida DMV or tax collector office that offers CDL services. Most locations require an appointment – walk-ins rarely work. Schedule online or call your local office. The test fee is $30 plus a $10 knowledge retest fee if you fail.
For the test, bring your valid Florida driver's license, your social security card, and proof of residency (like a utility bill). You'll also need a completed Medical Examiner's Certificate if you plan to drive interstate. Non-U.S. citizens must show their permanent resident card or valid work visa.
If you fail, you must wait at least one day before retaking the test. You get three tries within a year. After that, you'll need to reapply and pay the full fee again. Plan ahead and use our practice test to avoid those retake fees.
